Working from home across the border: what employers should settle

When employees work from home abroad, social insurance, tax and the applicable law are affected. A written arrangement creates clarity.

By Claire Exemple

What is simple at home quickly becomes complicated across the border. Before you allow working from home abroad, three questions should be settled.

Three questions

  1. Where is the person insured for social security?

  2. Where is their salary taxed?

  3. Which law governs the employment contract?

A short policy with a maximum share, a duty to report and a cost arrangement prevents most problems.
